WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Private and private lenders should speed up debt restructuring in countries like Chad, Zambia and Ethiopia or destroy countries that need assistance to participate, International Monetary Fund chief Kristalina Georgieva told Reuters Next conference on Friday.

“Do this,” he said, calling for timely loan repayment agreements and for agreeing to suspend debt repayment if the country seeks assistance under the Commonwealth-Based Common Framework and the Paris Club.

“Why would they take part if it always took, and in the meantime, they are still expected to pay off the debt?” he said.
