Vincent Kompany says he and his players were abused by their fans during Belgian league matches.
Anderlecht coach Vincent Kompany has accused rivals of insulting him and his players at a Belgian league game over the weekend.
The former Manchester City captain said he was insulted in Sunday’s game against Club Brugge and said his players and staff were also subjected to racist harassment. He said Brugge fans shouted “black monkeys”.
“I’m going home feeling disgusted and upset,” Kompany told Eleven Sports television. “I do not want to comment on this game. I just want to meet my staff, to be with people who need me. We do not have to do this anymore. ”
The son of a black father and a white mother, Kompany was often plagued by racism during his playing years. The 35-year-old has been involved in the fight against racism in football for a long time, pushing for a big difference within the game.
Anderlecht defender Wesley Hoedt said the attack “was not part of the game”.
“Things like this are not here. Of course, we can’t change much, but it has to come from the Pro League and the people, “Hoedt said.
Anderlecht concurred with the teacher. The Brussels club claims that members of the coaches have been subjected to repeated harassment at the games and that some players have been verbally abused as they warm up on the sidelines.
“The behavior of others casts a shadow on Belgian football,” Anderlecht said.
Club Brugge issued a statement after a 2-2 draw condemning “every form of discrimination”. On Monday, the club said it would work with all eligible officials to identify the culprits and punish them with a court ban.
“These people do not represent the beliefs and practices of our club, and they do not have their place at Jan Breydel Stadium,” the Belgian defender said.

Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden said Kompany’s response was positive.
“We hope he and his team recover tonight in peace,” Verlinden wrote on Twitter. “The fight against apartheid will not tolerate any tolerance.”
The incident sparked the interest of Chelsea player Romelu Lukaku, who has strongly criticized the Belgian league for angrily tolerating television.
“I hope you have noticed that a picture like Vincent Kompany has been insulted because of his skin … Enough … Take action now.” Lukaku wrote on Instagram in defense of his former Belgian teammate.
The Belgian league also joined in the criticism, saying that racism and xenophobia have no place between people and stadiums.
