Attorney in Arbery murder case has asked for ‘no more black pastors’ | Stories Of People Who Hate Stories

A lawyer representing one of the three whites accused of evicting and killing Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed black man, told the judge that security did not want “other black pastors” to appear in a Georgia court where the case was taking place.

Attorney Kevin Gough said in a statement Thursday that men’s case and a child – Gregory McMichael, 65, and Travis McMichael, 35 – and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan continued. The three are accused of chasing and killing 25-year-old Arbery while running in a white neighborhood in Brunswick in February 2020.

Gough, Bryan’s lawyer, made the remarks after US human rights leader Reverand Al Sharpton was found guilty on Wednesday and made an application with Arbery’s parents outside court.

“If their pastor is Al Sharpton right now, that’s fine. But then that’s it. We do not want black pastors to come here akhala having a victim’s family, trying to persuade judges in this case, “Gough said.

“We want politics to stay away from this case,” he added, adding that the presence of people like Sharpton “could be intentionally or unintentionally trying to force or influence judges.”

Judge Timothy Walmsley replied that “he will not exclude people from this court.”

Sharpton sharply criticized the request, which comes amid what is widely seen as a recent US referendum on justice. The video of the Arbery assassination, as well as the assassination of several other black people in the US, contributed to the devastation multi-month demonstrations in 2020.

“The ruthlessness of lawyer Kevin Gough in asking a judge to bar me or any family member of his choice proves to disregard the importance of a lost human life and the grief of a missing family. [of] Spiritual and community support, “Sharpton said.

He added that his presence was not “disruptive in any way” and “a family invitation”.

Ethnic issues are very complex

The McMichaels and Bryan drove Arbery in their cars when he saw her running around. He was then shot by Travis McMichael.

They told investigators they suspected him of theft in the area. Travis McMichael said he would defend himself against murder.

Critics say Arbery was a very fast runner who was forced to flee for his life after being chased by three armed men. They say he was killed according to reasoning.

The case is expected to be based on, among other things, the antitrust laws of Georgia. which was abolished after the assassination.

Officials took more than two months to file a lawsuit against McMichaels, and they did so after a video of a hand-painted mobile phone was downloaded to the internet and angered the public. Bryan was charged with manslaughter a few weeks later.

On Thursday, judges were shown videos of Arbery walking around an uninhabited area on his way to the Georgia area where he was shot, although no evidence showed Arbery guilty.

The three are also facing anti-federal charges.

Prosecutors in the past have accused civil rights lawyers of beating up eight black jurors for their race.

When Judge Walmsley said the first panel of judges represented the population of Glynn County, which comprises 27 percent of blacks, 11 of the last 12 judges elected were white.

The plaintiffs ruled that the defendants had been removed for various reasons.

Walmsley acknowledged that there appeared to be “deliberate discrimination” by defense lawyers, but said that “the court does not provide evidence to defendants that … of beating judges.”
