A new humanitarian crisis is taking place on the Polish-Belarusian border | Gallery News

For weeks, large groups of people, mainly from the Middle East, have been unstable in Belarus on the border with Poland, closed as troops from the two countries meet.

Many are fleeing conflicts or hopelessness, and want to go to Germany or other Western European countries.

In the west it is defendant Belarusian President Alexander Lukasjenko has persuaded refugees and border migrants to use them as weapons to disrupt 27 European Union countries in retaliation for its ruling regime.

Belarus refuses to address the crisis, which has seen refugees and internally displaced persons enter the country since the summer and try to cross into Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.

Humanitarian organizations say about 13 people he dies on the border, where many have suffered in the cold, wet forests with little food or water in the very cold winters.

Tuesday brought the first snow since the crisis.

About 2,000 people live in warehouses near the border with Poland. Lukashenko said 7,000 refugees and internally displaced persons remained in the country.

Poland’s security spokesman Stanislaw Zaryn estimates that some 10,000 refugees are Belarus now.

About 8,000 refugees have entered 27 EU countries – mainly through Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia – from Belarus this year, and border guards have blocked tens of thousands of attempts to cross, according to EU figures.

The crisis began earlier this year when former Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko reacted angrily to EU sanctions. The court punished Minsk for chasing a passenger plane in May and the arrest of a disgruntled journalist, Roman Protasevich, who boarded a plane.

Months ago, the EU and the United States punished Lukashenko’s government for resolving the dispute after the August 2020 election that gave the 67-year-old girl a sixth term and sparked anti-government protests.
