Police say they shot and killed a 20-year-old black man on Sunday outside Minneapolis – a few miles from Derek Chauvin he is guilty of the assassination of George Floyd.
Police at Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, said words police pulled the driver over for violating traffic around 2 p.m. Sunday, and he later realized he had a license. He started arresting her, but “the driver got back into the car,” and then a police officer shot him.
Police did not name the victim, but Katie Wright recognized him as their son, 20-year-old Daunte Wright.
The shot led hundreds of people a rally in front of the headquarters of the Brooklyn Police Department on Sunday night. Police fired tear gas, artwork, and bombs on opponents, as caught by pictures and movies tweeted from the scene. Later, about 11:30 pm, the police said the demonstrations were “illegal” and threats to arrest anyone left, Minnesota Public Radio News has said. Minnesota Commissioner of Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington said Monday morning about 20 businesses were confiscated.
Earlier in the day, hundreds had gathered at Wright’s funeral. Police came dressed in violence, according to Minneapolis Star Tribune correspondent Kim Hyatt. Some protesters broke into a police car front window, and a police officer shot a man with a rubber bullet, Hyatt sent word.
Wright Katie’s mother says her son takes his new car for cleaning after being pulled over by police, according to an MPR News tweet journalist Tim Nelson. In a video she shared on Facebook, Katie Wright said she pulled him over for having fresh air in her car. (In some lands, restrictions on air quality are prohibited from the rearview mirror.)
Police at the Brooklyn Center did not report “breaking the law” in its approach. The officers in charge were wearing body cameras, which police believe “opened at the time.”
Wright’s girlfriend was reportedly in the car at the time of the shooting. Brooklyn Center police say motorists are being treated for injuries at another hospital.
Wright then the father of a young child, Daunte Jr., who will be two years old in July, according to Star Tribune correspondent Kim Hyatt.
Wright’s death comes at a critical juncture in Minneapolis and surrounding areas, a verdict on the verge of assassination of George Floyd May May 2020. Floyd’s death brought many demonstrations around the country last year, and police around the country responded to the protests it is violent.
Derek Chauvin, the police officer who killed Floyd, has been charged with murder since the beginning of March. When the trial began in Minneapolis, the government was active surrounded by barriers and fences, and the authorities summoned thousands of police and members of the National Guard.
The National Guard arrived at the Brooklyn Center Monday morning following a Sabbath shooting, according to Star Tribune reporter Andy Mannix. Harrington, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, said they were also government officials shipped to the area, as well as government officials considering the time to get home, according to Minneapolis Public Radio correspondent Tim Nelson.
The Department of Public Safety at the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, an international body investigating a police investigation. wrote on Sunday delegates are traveling to the Brooklyn Center to investigate the shooting.
Minnesota Ambassador Tim Walz wrote on Sunday that he “watches what is going on at the Brooklyn Center” and “prays for the Daunte Wright family as our government mourns the loss of a black man taken by the police.”
Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliot wrote on Sunday that the shooting was “sad.” He called on the protesters to live peaceably and to refrain from reprisals.
Brooklyn Center police did not respond to a request for comment.
