Apple releases Tracker Detect to protect Android users from AirTags stalkers

Apple has released , a new Android app designed to help those who do not have an iOS device to know if someone is using AirTag or another Find My-compatible device to view their location. When the app finds the nearest AirTag that has been separated from its owners, it places it as an “Unknown AirTag.” If it has been following you for 10 minutes, you can use the app to tell the tracker to play music, making it more accessible. When you do, you can tap the device with your NFC-compatible phone and you will find instructions on how to remove its battery or stop it.

You no longer need an Apple account to use this app. As mentioned above, it can detect Find My Related Followers . “AirTag provides advanced industry secrets and security and today we are developing new technologies on Android devices. Tracker Detect gives Android users the opportunity to explore AirTag or help Find My followers who may be unknowingly traveling,” Apple spokesman Engadget told. “We are promoting privacy for our users and companies, and we hope others will follow through.”

The release of Tracker Detect comes after a number of incidents of malicious activity by AirTag hackers. In Canada, for example, police recently warned of thieves who use them to . In June, Apple, in an effort to alleviate the violence, changed its audience to play noises within eight to 24 hours after its owners’ departure, instead of for three days as before.

How best a Tracker Detect to protect people depends on the number of people downloading. Unlike iOS, which sends instant alerts when it detects an AirTags error, this is an app you need to install on your Android device. Its security is not built in Android, though.
