It was about two weeks ago when Tucker Carlson first he saidand the National Security Agency, without evidence, was not a spy for him and his organization but that his purpose was to “lose” the inner connections of his show in an attempt to remove the “atmosphere.”
Before long, the NSA took on an unprecedented role giving a public denial, via Twitter that Carlson “has never been an intelligence with the Agency and the NSA has never had any intentions of trying to destroy the program.”
The whole story is amazing – for many reasons. Even in modern times, seeing a well-known story of cable connection is a public debate with America’s largest spy is something you rarely see.
Now, it seems that the press agent and his demonstration actually filed a petition with the Freedom of Information Act and the spy agency, in an attempt to produce any evidence that the government wants to rank. Alex Pfeiffer, the leading researcher of Tucker Carlson Tonight, filed FOIA on June 28, Buzzfeed they say, keeping the document through its applications.
Pfeiffer’s FOIA, which consists of only two sentences, forms a large and inconspicuous web.

“I am requesting any call records, texts, or emails the NSA has obtained from journalist Tucker Carlson’s cell phone or email,” reads the document. “I am requesting any memos or documents related to surveilling journalist Tucker Carlson. I am requesting any communication between NSA officials regarding journalist Tucker Carlson.”
The dates for document capture span from Jan. 1st, 2019, to June 28th, 2021, the date of the FOIA’s filing.
On the one hand, it doesn’t take a whole lot to believe that Carlson’s claims could be, in one way or another, true. It’s not as if the NSA has a lot of guardrails (i.e., meaningful congressional or judicial oversight, ethical scruples, etc) to dissuade it from rogue spying.
On the other hand, making claims of this kind is a pretty easy way for a news network like Fox to gin up attention and viewership out of nothing. Carlson has provided no evidence that his communications have been intercepted beyond his claims about the unknown Mr. X who supposedly tipped him off.
As , the whole story comes at a good time. Recent, ongoing watchdogs have also fueled the ongoing controversy over the dangers of spying on ubiquitous Americans. This does not make Tucker a frustrated and imperfect speaker, nor does it make him ashamed.
