Iran under a Presidential candidate still needs JCPOA | Killing

Ebrahim Raisi may have criticized the nuclear deal in the past, but as President, he should follow suit.

A handful of candidates in Iran’s presidential election are threatening Iranian Prime Minister Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who repeatedly called on candidates to run in the by-elections as a way to counter foreign powers, especially the United States, often referred to as Satan the Great in politics. Iran.

But with the participation of less than 50%, the lowest in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran, no hero like this can be said. Instead, President-elect Ebrahim Raisi will have an unprecedented record of receiving the most popular vote for any president in Iran since 1979. His victory is meaningless that would not bring official recognition to the Iranian government.

For more than 50% of the electorate, the Islamic State has failed and created problems. Economic growth, economic decline, unemployment, discrimination, and a lack of social and political values have put people at risk. The outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, which made Iran a source of infection in 2020, was the last straw.

The Iranian leadership is well aware of the diversity of peoples and the potential for political unrest. In recent years, Iran has been rocked by a series of spontaneous demonstrations of economic hardship; at the end of 2017, even the rise in egg prices led to widespread dissatisfaction.

That is why the President’s leader, President Hassan Rouhani, is determined to address the financial crisis. He enlisted the support of Khamenei to negotiate with the whites on the complex nuclear issue in Iran. By the time Rouhani took office in 2013, the program was a source of national pride and strife among Western governments, especially the US.

In 2015, he took the lead in the recognition and approval of the General Assembly to demonstrate “strong flexibility” and to sign the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in repeating the sanctions that undermined Iran’s economy. Unfortunately for Rouhani and the Iranian economy, sanctions have not been completely lifted and in 2018 the then US President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal.

This was a disgrace to Rouhani and other scholars who jeopardized their political future at JCPOA and supported them. The activists, including Ebrahim Raisi, felt reassured when Trump withdrew from the alliance, mocking Rouhani’s party for their slander.

But that was not the end of the story. JCPOA is renewing its debut since President Joe Biden took office in Washington, and I hope to be revived. The President, who will take office in August, will receive an unfinished business.

Although the President attacks Rouhani for weakening international negotiations and announcing a strong settlement, he is following an undisclosed agreement in the leadership that Iran’s economy is desperately needed to rebuild. Prior to the election, he volunteered for the JCPOA, despite criticism years ago.

Therefore, he must follow the trade by wearing the president’s attire. Most importantly, the Supreme Leader. whose decisions have just begun, they have already ratified the agreement and are keen to see the benefits to the economy and alleviate the widespread anger and economic decline in Iran.

While it is unclear how the incumbent President will oversee the JCPOA talks, the fact that he is always open to his revival gives Biden officials a chance to present to Iranian leaders who will not miss out. Through negotiations in Vienna, the US could impose sanctions, including access to international funding, which Iran desperately needs. In doing so, the JCPOA will establish an effective uranium transport system to ensure that Iran does not adhere to the nuclear weapons program.

The agreement was discussed in 2015 as the best way to monitor Iran’s nuclear program and as a precautionary measure against nuclear weapons. If they discuss it again, the President can follow suit.

The economic downturn of Iranian scholars should not deter Washington. Providing real economic benefits in the revitalized JCPOA is the best way to ensure Iran follows suit, especially if it is combined with a positive US-led demonstration. The president will not be able to deny the real hope for economic recovery, a key figure in the survival of Iran’s leaders.
