Former Senate President Harry Reid has died at the age of 82

Harry Reid, a longtime Democratic lawmaker and former US political leader George W Bush and Barack Obama, died Tuesday at his Nevada home at the age of 82.

Reid grew up in abject poverty but climbed the political ladder to become one of the US legislators, serving a four-year term in the House of Representatives 30 years earlier in the upper house of Congress, after being elected senator. from 2007 to 2015.

He graduated from Utah State University and obtained a law degree from George Washington University, before returning to Nevada to pursue a career in politics. He was first elected to Congress in 1982.

Steve Sisolak, Democratic Republic of Nevada governor, called Reid a “mentor” and a “father”, adding: “There will never be another leader like him.”

Soft-spoken but often calm, Reid was a Nevada political king, where he wasted no time in building up the Democratic Party, which won several of the most contested competitions in recent years – including his last call in 2010.

Reid he did not want to be re-elected in 2016 after suffering a serious head injury in a physical accident that left him unable to see with one eye.

In a farewell address to Congress, Reid reflected on his journey from youth poverty to the big stadiums in Washington, saying: “I have not won in my life because of my athletic ability. I did not get it because of my good looks. I did not finish because I was smart. because I was working so hard. ”

“I tell everyone, whatever you want to do, make sure you work as hard as you can to do what you want,” added the legislator. “I believe it has a lesson for everyone.”
