The Covid losers outweigh the successes between leaders and countries

The author, Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s chief strategist global, is the author of ‘The Ten Rules of Successful Nations’.

Joe Biden is a junior leader, with a approval of 40 percent lower due to rising prices and the risk of infection worldwide. But the US president is no exception, as Omicron’s diversity helps weaken many leaders who previously seemed to be retaliating against the epidemic.

Among the 15 major democratic regimes that hold regular elections, leaders are unpopular or lose popularity in 10 of them, from France to Taiwan. Voters who were quick to follow their leaders at the beginning of the war, and the protests that went up at the end of 2020, are tired of the work of mobilizing people. He doubts that everyone has a successful strategy to deal with the enemy changing shape.

Data from Johns Hopkins University, presented by endcoronavirus.org, showing that since December, the number of “successful” positions, meaning pushing the number of new cases near zero, has dropped by half to twelve. This is a great achievement, but the wrong approach is emerging.

There are no 50 countries with the highest population in the world that are successful in fighting the virus. Costs are usually in small areas such as Palau and the Vatican. Meanwhile, the number of losers – countries that “must act” against Omicron – has almost doubled since December to 110.

In the past, government officials and journalists have studied countries with limited resources as examples of how to fight Covid. The cottage companies are now silent. Many success stories left the light after being severely affected by the future epidemic. These include Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Sweden and Germany.

Some have gone from failure to success and back. Formerly ridiculed as a “third world” for unscientific ideology under the leadership of Donald Trump, who has been ostracized for its immediate vaccination, the US now faces the worst possible death risk of any developed country.

Biden pays the price, but he is not the only one who has noticed that legal permits have increased in recent months, which have been curtailed by public fatigue as the virus progresses. Leaders in the UK, Australia and Canada also faced similar challenges.

Home critics focus too much on their failure to address the epidemic but miss the point that governments around the world are experiencing the same. Although New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who became world-famous for her initial response to the epidemic, saw her support decline sharply as new nations began to emerge.

Reliance on political leaders and health officials is declining in Europe and the US, where suspicions are mounting not only on Biden but also on government officials and on the government’s response to the virus, including vaccination and vaccination.

Recognizing the perceived exhaustion, democratic governments that sought to eradicate the virus, including Australia, Canada and New Zealand, are now reducing that goal. The only major country is China, where the administration boasted that its “zero-Covid” policies overcame the epidemic and triggered a recession.

It was there. This month, Beijing reiterated their first Omicron case, which involves a large number of people who do not have adequate protection, due to a slight decline in previous problems. The ideology of aggression and closure may have left China “insecure” and at high risk of progress.

Recently, Beijing officials have spoken of a “strong cleanup” instead of zero Covid, pointing out that it is changing based on evidence that repeated closures are detrimental to the economy. Foreign commentators also no longer sing China as an example.

Rulers or democrats, many governments have promised that, if the people follow their leaders, success will come soon. Rather, the virus marked the state limits of government by controlling or even comprehending this powerful natural force. After signing a short war, voters lose patience.

Refreshment can come. Amid indications that Omicron has risen sharply in some parts of the US and Europe, health officials around the world last week reaffirmed hope that an “endgame” was approaching. But the immediate discussion of “success” only fuels public outrage and causes permanent damage to the credibility of the political party.
