The NYC Bill prohibits AI enrollment tools that fail to check

New York City will soon reduce the chances of AI konda in the job market. The Associated Press notes the city council said has passed fines for recruiting AI recruits who do not conduct annual audits to assess racial or gender bias. Developers may also need to be more transparent (including machine tool disclosures), and provide other features such as public monitoring. Fees can be as high as $ 1,500 per case.

The bill was passed on November 10. Outgoing mayor Bill de Blasio has one month to sign it into law, but he has not said whether he will do so or not. If the measure progresses, it will be operational in 2023.

Unsigned legislation can reduce the chances of AI recruiting profession confusing potential clients and increasing the number of participants. Organizations with a business like the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce are already doing well, meaning that disclosure is important for their employers and their skills.

However, there are already concerns that the enacted law will not work as promised. Alexandra Givens of the Center for Democracy & Technology told a AP the bill does not take into account other biases, such as probability or age. This also proves that the calculations are useful – Julia Stoyanovich of New York University argued that the requirements were “easy to meet.” There is concern that the rules could protect fellow employers whose AI platforms are biased or difficult to identify.
