It’s a dangerous experience for players, and that happens all too often. You return to work to get some rest, and your friend, friend, or relative shakes your toy computer or laptop. Or, in the same stressful situation, someone is just eating everything Squid game on a project or TV that you use a Spartan noobs gun (or whatever).

If your game is not connected to another device, and the device is not connected to a single screen. Alienware thinks it has an answer, but let me start by saying that it is not one you can enjoy anytime soon.

Announced in preparation for CES 2022, the company’s Concept Nyx is a vision for the future in which a single gaming server in your home can move multiple times simultaneously from the central game library. It’s all fiction right now, so let me tell you some of it.

Do you see the big box above? It’s a server, if you will – a gaming machine that, in the good world of Alienware, can run four games at once and download them via wifi to an app that can be accessed on any of your devices, be it a tablet, phone, computer, TV, or laptop. You can immediately switch off your computer to your TV after your partner has finished watching the last episode.

The goal is to make playing games as easy as watching movies or TV shows, except without switching between twelve services. Alienware says the app will contain all of your games, regardless of where you purchased them.

Here is how Alienware views Concept Nyx:

“Imagine you are on your computer in your bedroom looking at Night City in Cyberpunk 2077. Your roommates are sitting at their laptop and tablet in the living room, head-to-head fighting in the Rocket League. And your cousin is also over, building a new world in Minecraft on his phone. Now let’s say it’s time to prepare dinner for you to get down and pass the guide to one of your roommates – you can quickly switch to CyberPunk 2077 on your 65-inch TV in the living room and let them pick up where you left off. , improve your game while cooking. ”

You may be wondering how this differs from cloud computing solutions, such as Nvidia’s GeForce Now or Google Stadia. The key here is on-line computers, so high-speed games can fix everything locally (instead of going to a remote server), allowing lower latency and higher bandwidth.

This all sounds like a dream to the players, and unfortunately, right now it is exactly: a dream. There are some technical problems that should not be addressed, not to mention the problems that may be associated – oh, and the problem of chip shortages. We saw some of these difficulties in the regular Nyx show trying to stream Rocket League and Cyberpunk 2077 at the same time (to be honest, it is not known what caused the technical disruption, although the wifi in the workshop is often the culprit).

Like other ideas (Luna, Pari and others) which Dell / Alienware revealed this month, Nyx is the first, and Alienware has said nothing about pricing, promotions, or specifications. While there is no guarantee that Nyx will return to the market, we can be encouraged by the fact that big companies sometimes agree with our pain – and sometimes we try to take action.
