Former president pleads guilty to murder when family outbreaks occur | Black Life Essential Issues

The mother of a black man who was shot in the United States by a former white man from Nashville cried, shouted and knocked on a teacher’s courtroom on Friday when she asked a judge not to accept a request that she allegedly secretly suspended without her knowledge, a disturbing incident that delayed a brief hearing.

Former police chief Andrew Delke has pleaded guilty to murder and will serve three years in prison after the death of Daniel Hambrick, 25, in 2018 as part of a crackdown on dissent.

As part of the deal, Mr Delke agreed not to pursue the parole or sue. However, Delke’s defense says he could spend a year and a half in jail with a valid record.

Taking police in the US is difficult because the courts and judges are on the side of the police. This can change. Encouraged by the popular protests in the Black Lives Matter following the death of George Floyd in 2020, the US Congress opposes ideas for police reform.

The court changed completely when Hambrick’s mother, Vickie, made long speeches as the brothers and others applauded. Some followers, outside the courthouse along the way, knocked on his door to help him. The Delke family became part of the court and the guards.

“I hate you,” Vickie Hambrick screamed repeatedly, while shouting obscenities, directing others at Delke and critics.

Delke, 27, was about to face charges of murdering his first friend, but his lawyer announced he had revealed a minor charge of manslaughter.

“I hope this case can help in the most important negotiations the way the police teach and how we as a group want the police to connect with citizens, ”Delke said shortly after entering.

Sometimes his voice cries out, Delke apologizes, saying he is “very sorry for the wrong I did”.

A group of about a dozen demonstrators gathered outside the courthouse, chanting “racist police” to protest against Delke’s actions. Others wore shirts in recognition of the police as well whites receive lighter punishments by making cases similar to those of Black and brown People.

The Hambrick family said they had not been reconciled or questioned and were unaware of the request until it happened.

“I disdain this system. I disregarded this request. I despise a [Fraternal Order of Police]. And I mock Andrew Delke. You will all rot in hell, ”said lawyer Joy Kimbrough, who read Vickie Hambrick’s words while weeping behind his back.

District Judge Glenn Funk told reporters later that he had notified Hambrick’s family lawyer about the deal Wednesday and spoke to Vickie Hambrick on Thursday. He said he had been in contact with them for three years, and knew that Vickie Hambrick wanted Delke sentenced to death and sentenced to life imprisonment.

In response, Funk said he had made the decision in favor of the Tennessee government. There was a “very high chance” that the case would have ended in a jury, Funk said, which he said would have meant the views seen in court on Friday “would have played a hundred”.

Funk called it a “great advance” that “tonight will be the first night Nashville has a police officer in jail for shooting a black man at work”.

Opponents focused more on the spectacle of the shooting, as Delke stopped chasing and shot the fugitive.

Nashville Metro Council has approved a $ 2.25m settlement a government cases and the Hambrick family.
