China’s population has grown steadily over the past 10 years until 2020, according to a census released Tuesday.
A census of the last decade, completed in December, showed an increase of 1.41bn in 2020 compared to 1.4bn a year ago, the National Bureau of Statistics said.
But these figures also show an annual growth rate of 0.53% since 2010, compared with 0.57% in the last decade – the lowest since the People’s Republic of China began collecting population in 1953.
The program of The Financial Times reports last month the Chinese government announced a first-year reduction in the 60-year census. Proponents of her case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online.
