Apple allows dating apps in the Netherlands to offer third-party payments

Apple has also begun to respect the rules required allowing alternative payment methods in the App Store, though this one is real. Monga Reuters reports, Apple has been confirmed will follow orders from the Netherlands’ Authority for Consumers and Markets to compel them to allow third-party payment methods at Tinder and other dating programs offered locally. The administrator confirmed on December 24 that Apple had misused its market power to claim its in-app purchase platform, and gave Apple until January 15 a change if it wanted to avoid fines.

Like previous elections, Apple was not happy. It also said allowing third-party decisions to “disrupt users” expose new secrets and security threats, and also reminded builders that they (or their payers) will be responsible for reimbursement and similar risks. Apple is appealing the ACM decision and considers it to still take commissions from third party payments.

The order does not apply to any of the programs available in the Netherlands. However, it shows growing criticism of the Apple Store Store business in several countries, including South Korea and the US. Officials believe Apple is using what they want to buy within the app to block competition, and it would not be surprising if other countries follow this soon.
