The under-18s are at the lowest risk of illness or death from Covid-19, according to a new study from UK universities.

Only 251 children and adolescents in the UK were hospitalized with Covid-19 in the 12 months to February 28 2021, according to a public health survey.

Meanwhile, 25 under 18s in the UK died of Covid-19, a separate but linked study that was found.

The authors of these two studies, as well as a third of the same group, described them as a “comprehensive cognitive analysis” to date on major illnesses and deaths from Covid-19 among children and adolescents.

A study focusing on Covid-19 care among adolescents, for example, looked at clinical data between 2015 and 2021, linking it to information that would allow critically ill patients, deaths and coronavirus test results.

The report showed that the risk of serious illness was slightly higher in adolescents with pre-existing and more severe cases of Covid-19 seizures.

Their results will support vaccination principles and exclude people, “not only in the UK but globally,” said Russell Viner, a professor at University College London and two author of the study.

Researchers at UCL, Imperial College London, University of Liverpool, University of Bristol and the University of York who conducted the study said they wanted to present the three courses to the World Health Organization and two UK government agencies that vaccinate and Covid-19 related principles.
