Lebanese Prime Minister-elect Saad Hariri has offered a proposal to the new prime minister to President Michel Aoun about a move that could end in nine months as the country faces a financial crisis.

A senior Sunni politician has offered a number of suggestions to Aoun, a Shia Hezbollah ally, in recent months, but has failed to agree on the list.

“Now is the time for the truth,” Hariri, who has been arguing with Aoun over cabinet appointments since his election in October, told reporters Wednesday after the meeting.

Aoun said in his remarks he had studied the request to make a decision.

The recommendations are 24 for technical ministers, in line with France’s idea of ​​a government that could implement reforms that would open up much-needed foreign aid to save the country.

“For me, this government can begin to save the country and prevent a collapse,” Hariri told a news conference.

Previous ideas also belonged to the technocrat team. It is not yet clear how the new arrangements differ or what would happen if Aoun refused.

However, Wednesday’s request appears to be Hariri’s last attempt to appoint a new prime minister, as he is expected to relinquish his all duties after leaving Egypt.

Saudi Al Hadath television also reported in the past that Cairo had asked him not to stop, based on his writings.

Sources in Cairo say Egypt has promised financial and political support for the new government and that delegates will travel to Beirut soon.

If the minister was rejected and Hariri resigned, he would have left the country to look for another Sunni who was willing to replace him.

Under the auspices of the ruling party, the President of Lebanon is expected to be a Maronite Christian and a Sunni Muslim prime minister. Less than a year before the parliamentary election, few would be ready to move forward.

Lebanon has been without a government since the last one resigned after August 4 Beirut harbor explosion which killed more than 200 people, injured thousands more and destroyed the city’s infrastructure.

In recent months, both Hariri and Aoun have been plotting to overthrow the government, with Hariri criticizing the Lebanese president and his Hezbollah ally for seeking a third of the cabinet seats based on sectarian and political parties.

The Sunni leader says allies of Aoun have gained voting power if one-third of the cabinet goes to them.

The crisis is compounded by the global financial crisis, which the World Bank has described as one of the biggest challenges in modern history.
