Microsoft is affiliated with Hart, the manufacturer of voting machines

Voting machine security is a growing concern during the two presidential elections. Microsoft is looking to do its part to dispel doubts about the authenticity of the results. That partnership with Hart InterCivic, one of selected machine providers in the US, setting up Microsoft software.

ElectionGuard allows voters to ensure that their votes are properly counted (and not modified) for end-to-end. Third-party security experts can develop their own election monitoring software through ElectionGuard.

Hart has tested ElectionGuard in its Verity vote, which is used by more than 500 constituencies in 17 countries. As soon as they look at their vote in Verity, ElectionGuard reads and writes.

Voters will receive a confirmation number, which they can use for online checking if their vote was read correctly. Microsoft claims that the contents of the voters’ roll are not disclosed at this time and will not be confidential.

Microsoft has been working professionally for a number of years. That with the aim of making the voting system in the US more transparent. Hart was the first to develop a voting machine to integrate these programs. Perhaps if it works as promised and is fully utilized by the 2024 Presidential campaign, ElectionGuard will help dispel future stereotypes about elections.
