Saudi Arabia’s MBS for the first time in Qatar since the end of the blockade | Stories

Crown Prince Mohammed’s visit comes after Saudi Arabia and its allies took action to end Qatar’s blockade of years in early 2021.

Saudi Arabian Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Doha for the third time on his visit to the Gulf, the first time since Qatar was closed in January.

Crown Prince Mohammed was received on arrival by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, after which the two leaders held rallies Wednesday night.

The trip came as Saudi Arabia took action to end the embassy crisis that severely divided countries, disrupted relations and disrupted the old Gulf alliance.

Qatar is the third stop on the Gulf Arab tour with Crown Prince Mohammed before the Gulf summit this month.

The summit will be the first since Saudi Arabia – along with Bahrain, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates – have agreed to end their conflict with Qatar over its foreign policy, which led to its termination of its relations with Doha in June 2017.

During the regional conflict, Qatar rejected the quartet’s demands – which also included shutting down Al Jazeera Media Network and the immediate expulsion of Turkish troops from its territory.

In January, the four blockage states agreed to end the conflict.

Since then, Riyadh and Cairo have appointed new ambassadors to Doha. Abu Dhabi and Manama still did not follow. Qatar also established trade and travel links with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt, but not with Bahrain.

The Emir of Qatar traveled to Saudi Arabia and met with Crown Prince Mohammed several times since the end of the conflict. Wednesday’s visit was the first visit by a Saudi prince to Qatar since he was elected emperor in 2017.

The Saudi prince’s visit has already stopped in Oman and the UAE where he visited Expo 2020 in Dubai for the first time on Wednesday before leaving for Doha. He is still expected to travel to Bahrain and Kuwait over the weekend.

Crown Prince Mohammed’s visit coincides with talks between Iran and international powers aimed at rescuing the well-known nuclear deal signed by the world powers in 2015.

Then President Donald Trump removed the United States from the treaty in 2018 and reinstated sanctions, which led Iran to withdraw from its promises. Tehran has refused to seek nuclear weapons, and says its efforts are only strong.

Although the relations between the GCC are influenced by culture, religion and ethnicity, they have different foreign views on Iran.

Oman, Kuwait and Qatar have all maintained ties with Tehran, while Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE have seen tensions.
