Germany Is About to Ban One Pornography Site

Protecting children in Germany moderators are about to close one pornographic page. Officials have given permission to the country’s largest internet service providers that a pornographic site, believed to be xHamster, should be available to 83 million Germans.

A restraining order, which could be issued in the coming weeks by the Commission for the Protection of Minors in Media (Commission for the Protection of Children of the Press in German, or KJM), follows xHamster’s failure to set age-appropriate checks to stop under the 18s from viewing pornography. The law is the latest salvo in a two-year campaign by regulators to force all pornographic pages available in Germany to prove age.

Lawmakers around the world – including Canada, France, the UK and other US countries – want to establish alternatives to prevent children from accessing adult content on the Internet. But Germany’s move is one of the biggest takeaways so far, with critics likening it to analysis.

German authorities have taken action against four major pornographic pages, says Marc Jan Eumann, chairman of the KJM. The group, which represents 14 states in the country, has a responsibility to ensure international cooperation in the protection of children. In addition to other German child protection laws. Eumann refuses to confirm the four pages that KJM is challenging. However, German reporting he says The lawsuit is against xHamster and three pages, YouPorn, Pornhub, and MyDirtyHobby, all owned by MindGeek.

Supervisors have been trying to force pornographic pages to issue an age-old check – which could include downloading documents – since September 2019. Many of these have been forced by the state superintendent, Tobias Schmid of the State Media Authority of North Rhine- Westphalia, he was criticized for his views on sexuality, but the issue is now being handled by KJM as well.

Eumann says companies need to develop age monitoring systems to ensure that their visitors are not children. The law says pornography can be accessed by authorities, Eumann says. In all four cases, the pages of pornography, with their German translation, are accused of failing to establish age-appropriate methods.

Another sex site, thought to be xHamster, was first linked by administrators in March 2020 and later by June 2020. The application for age review has now turned into a criminal case and three cases are pending in the Düsseldorf administrative courts, Eumann said.

In the case of xHamster he believes there is no response from the site owners. As a result, the case is considered to be the most advanced and could lead to the closure of Germany in the coming weeks. At the end of June 2021 KJM recognized the company that vice xHamster and he asked to make the website unavailable. “We have a blockade system that gives us visitors, who live in the Netherlands,” says Eumann. “If the agent doesn’t follow, we’ll take the last step.” The order expired this weekend, KJM confirmed. “The last step is to do things, a restraining order, against those who offer opportunities in Germany,” adds Eumann.

Instead, this means giving permission to operators of Germany’s largest websites – including Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, O2 and 1 & 1 – to ban the website from people who want to use it in Germany. Larger providers will be screened first, with smaller ones to follow and possibly blocking may occur at the Domain Name System (DNS) level. When you browse the Internet, the URL you enter in your address bar is converted to the IP address and DNS. Setting up a DNS block would mean that anyone who writes down the pornographic address in their browser will not be able to see the page.
