Leading experts in the UK trying to tackle the coronavirus epidemic, along with well-known government advisers, are reviving the New Year’s honorary list.
In another proclamation, the Queen nominated former Prime Minister Tony Blair as a member of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, the highest-ranking and most influential group in the world.
In great respect. Professor Chris Whitty, chief medical officer in England, and Sir Patrick Vallance, senior advisor to the state science department, will receive KCBs.
Dr Jenny Harries, chief of the UK Health Security Agency, Dr June Raine, chief of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, and Emily Lawson, former chief marketing officer at NHS England who oversees information on the Covid-19 vaccine, will be made DBEs.
Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, England’s vice-chancellor, will be identified, along with Frank Atherton and Gregor Smith, medical officials in Wales and Scotland respectively.
About 200 people who have worked in their community to help people cope with the epidemic have also been honored. This includes Tobias Weller, 11, and Max Woosey, 12, who will receive BEM for their efforts to raise money in times of crisis and are among the very few who have received honor.
The list of businesses that will receive honors include Jan du Plessis, Nigel Wilson, Doug Oakervee, William Russell and Ian Livingstone, all of whom will be experts, and Vivienne Cox, who will be made DBE.
Du Plessis, a former BT chairman and miner in Rio Tinto, was elected by the government last week as the new chairman of the UK’s finance ministry. Wilson is the chief financial officer of Legal and General, and Oakervee is the former chairman of the HS2 and Crossrail railway companies.
Russell was the last mayor of the City of London while Livingstone has been a well-known figure in the online gaming industry, in addition to being a founder of Games Workshop.
Cox is a senior non-executive director at pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline and is well-known for promoting diversity and inclusion in the business.
Robert Stringer, chairman of Sony Music, Kathleen Grussing, head of research group Sapphire Partners, and Shalini Khemka, CEO of E2E, a group of 23,000 commercial representatives, all received CBEs.
Blair said he was “very appreciative of Her Majness the Queen” for being chosen to be Garter’s specialist. Sir John Major is the only prime minister who is a member of the council.
Other nominees for the program announced Friday include Baroness Valerie Amos, former UN secretary general and co-ordinator of the United Nations, and Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles’ wife.
Among the other politicians honored is former member of Labor Lord Frank Field, who has been elected Companion of Hour.
Also on the list are Conservative MPs William Wiggin and Robert Goodwill, both of whom will be experts. Former MP Sylvia Heal, Labor, and John Battle, Conservative, will be the dame and knight respectively.
Nobel Prize-winning naturalist Sir Paul Nurse will also be awarded his Distinguished Fellow for his contribution to scientific research.
The tribute goes to celebrities, including 78 Olympians and Paralympians to celebrate their victory at the Tokyo Games. At the center of the list are Olympians couple Laura and Jason Kenny, who will receive damehood and knighthood for their cycling activities.
Tennis player Emma Raducanu received the MBE following its US Open victory in September. The 19-year-old is the first British woman to win a major title since Virginia Wade won at Wimbledon in 1977.
Swimmer Adam Peaty and swimmer Tom Daley will both receive OBEs for informing people about mental health and LGBT succession as well as winning gold medals.
Well-known artists from the internationally acclaimed arts are actresses Joanna Lumley and Vanessa Redgrave, both of whom will be madame for their drama, entertainment and charity.
Alistair Spalding, director and director of Sadler’s Wells worldwide, will be talented and James Bond player Daniel Craig will be made CMG.
Boris Johnson, the UK Prime Minister, said: “The recipients have encouraged and entertained us and have given a lot to their communities in the UK or often around the world.
“Respect is an opportunity to thank them, as a country, for their dedication and support.”
