Ivory Coast Prime Minister Patrick Achi is in hospital in France | Ivory Coast News

A 65-year-old man was elected Prime Minister in March following the death of the country’s second prime minister less than eight months ago.

Ivory Coast Prime Minister Patrick Achi has been hospitalized in Paris for tests, according to reports.

The 65-year-old, a close ally of President Alassane Ouattara, was elected Prime Minister in March following the death of the country’s second prime minister less than eight months ago.

Two sources close to Achi told Reuters news agency that they had received him “very tired” since his election in March. Achi replaced Hamed Bakayoko, who died of cancer at the age of 56. Bakayoko replaced Amadou Gon Coulibaly, who died of a heart attack in July 2020.

There was no immediate comment by the government.

In the case of Gon Coulibaly and Bakayoko, the state media told reporters a few weeks before his death that he was suffering from fatigue.

Achi is set to replace Ouattara, who won a third term in October 2020. Ouattara nominated Gon Coulibaly to run for office but decided to run after Gon Coulibaly’s death.

This is a key element in the negotiations to end the huge power outage that has plagued towns for weeks.

He went to France for health reasons last week but left before joining the party to discuss power outages, sources said. He then returned to Paris on Tuesday, barring visits to power dams.

Achi will have a test in Paris and will rest for a few days before returning to Ivory Coast, sources said.
