VW will make its own car chips for self-driving cars

Volkswagen can’t match the power on the electric shelf with his own self-driving cars. As Reuters (via Autoblog) reports, chief executive Herbert Diess told Products in interview The VW will make its own high-end chips for autonomous vehicles. It was necessary to find the best equipment, Diess said – like Apple and Tesla, the move could give VW “advanced technology” in terms of its processors.

The maker of the machine does not make the chips himself, but he wants to get the certificates. Part of the company’s software, Cariad, is growing to develop the right expertise.

Such a move may be necessary for VW’s goal of being a more complex, more sophisticated type. Tesla relied on NVIDIA’s standard antique cars, but it did they turn into regular chips which gives them the ability to control how Autopilot and Autopilot function. Likewise, many praise Apple growth in performance for the design of its own home – it can make CPUs fit in its best way instead of making phones and computers around another person’s map.

You will have to wait a while to see the results of the VW design when the company does not expect to drive self-driving cars. until 2025 or later. If it wins, it could mean more luck than its competitors who can be reduced by car technology.
