US promises Covid 750,000 vaccine trip to Taiwan on a high-profile trip

The US has issued a 750,000 Covid-19 vaccine in Taiwan, in support of the country after Taipei criticized Beijing for interfering in its efforts to obtain jabs.

The announcement of a US cinema group on a successful trip to Taipei on Sunday came just days after Japan left gave 1.2m jabs, as Taiwan battles the first Covid epidemic.

US supply to Taiwan in excess of 10% of the 7m vaccine Washington has promised to supply to Asia and the Pacific.

“It was important in the United States for Taiwan to be included in the first vaccine group because we recognize your urgent need and appreciate this partnership,” said US senator Sammy Duckworth.

Duckworth and two other airlines arrived in Taipei on a US Air Force fighter jet from South Korea, the first U.S. military jet to Taiwan since a disaster-relief operation following the 1999 earthquake.

US diplomats have refrained from using Air Force aircraft since Washington ceased to represent countries from Taipei to Beijing in 1979. China, which claims Taiwan and its ally and threatens to seize them if Taipei refuses to monitor permanently, sees any military presence available. US on the island as an excitement.

“They used an Air Force plane to show that the project was supported, approved or coordinated by supervisors,” said a Taiwanese official. “The US government wants to make sure people understand the meaning of this game.”

Taiwan’s health authorities announced on Sunday that 343 cases were being spread in the area. Taipei mainly contracted coronavirus last year but the outbreak in May has begun to spread to other electronics factories, which are the backbone of a developing segment outside the country.

Opponents in Taiwan have strongly criticized the government of President Tsai Ing-wen for the lack of vaccination. The government fears that China is trying to use health problems to undermine public order and turn people against the Tsai, whom Beijing has accused of “seeking independence through the epidemic”.

China says it is ready to vaccinate Taiwan, but Taipei has criticized Beijing for its efforts to meet specific vaccines. China also criticized Japan for supporting vaccinations in Taiwan.

Tsai expressed his determination to cooperate with countries other than China in the fight against the virus. “I hope that through partnerships with the United States, Japan and other countries, Taiwan will be able to address the challenges we face and help advance our global prevention strategy,” he said at a meeting with US filmmakers.

Tsai said their message of co-operation with the two organizations “also reflects the strong relationship between Taiwan and the United States”.
