Streamlabs is not the only company drawing a picture from the Open Broadcasting Software (OBS) project. According to to Policy, OBS business development manager Ben Torell says he has “clear evidence” TikTok violating open source GNU General Public License (aka GPL) and its latest Live Studio program. The Windows livestreaming software is said to use code from OBS Studio and other open source applications, but TikTok does not share the code under the GPL.
Live Studio is designed to give you the look and feel you get from advertising like Twitch, such as video games and covers. Available to a few users in a small western market, TikTok he tells TechCrunch results, but that has nothing to do with such a licensing dispute.
We asked TikTok for an answer. This will not bring a charge, however. Torell confirmed that the OBS project responds to GPL violations “in good faith” and would be happy to work with TikTok as long as they respect the franchise. With that being said, TikTok had not yet responded to OBS concerns by writing this – the dispute is not over.
