China is stepping up its efforts to control the epidemic in Tianjin, a 14m city near Beijing, while its zero-Covid-19 approach is being tested by the country that first discovered the Omicron coronavirus.
In recent days, Chinese officials have been cracking down on traffic jams, closing schools and setting up several city gates about 120 km southeast of China’s capital, state media reported.
Residents of Tianjin have been told not to leave the city and those who try to do so will be considered destitute. Recent methods followed the establishment of Sunday for a a campaign to test the entire city in response to at least two Omicron receipts received the day before.
The disease was the first to spread the most contagious disease in the world’s most populous country. Tianjin is about 30 minutes by train from Beijing, and thousands of people travel between cities every day.
The discovery of the Omicron spread within the Chinese border comes back in the middle of difficulties in the central region of Xi’an, which has been closed since December 22. Authorities are being reprimanded after residents of the 13m city were left without medical care and food.

The National Health Commission also reported 199 new cases of coronavirus in its recent moratorium on Monday, including 99 cases of local infections, 23 of which were found in Tianjin. The commission addressed 92 local cases on Sunday.
Two other Omicron cases were reported in Anyang, a city of more than 5m in central China, one of which was linked to a student from Tianjin, local media reported.
The numbers are smaller than most other countries struggling with the spread of Omicron species. But Omicron’s definite arrival poses a serious challenge to the government amid concerns the power of a Chinese-made vaccine.
The global interest in the emergence and response of the Chinese Communist Party should also intensify in the coming weeks. Winter Olympics is expected to start in Beijing early next month.
