Officials have announced new restrictions on entry into the UK based on the new Omicron version of coronavirus, and have re-launched pre-trial testing for all coming next week.
Sajid Javid, health secretary, said riders should show proof of incorrect tests before departure, regardless of whether they have a vaccine, starting at 4am Tuesday.
Nigeria will be added to the “red list” on Monday morning, becoming the 11th country in Africa to make the list.
Visitors from the countries on the red list must stay in a state-approved hotel with their own funds for 10 days.
“Based on recent developments, we are taking steps to reduce the spread of the Omicron race,” Javid said on Saturday evening.
Officials tightened tightening travel regulations last week in response to the diversity, which was first identified in southern Africa, and created uncertainty through the travel industry.
In addition to restoring the red list, riders should have a PCR test within two days of arrival and should isolate themselves until they receive negative results.
Pilots, airports, and other travel companies were reluctant to resume testing before takeoff, which they said was a hindrance to pleasant travel.
Sean Doyle, chief of British Airways, said the issue was “devastating” and customers “now face uncertainty and turmoil”.
“Resetting the attempt to enter the UK, on top of the current independence regime and PCR testing on arrival will not be in line with the rest of the world, every other country is taking the path of science,” he said. he said.
Karen Dee, executive director of the Airport Operators Association, said she hoped “much of the remaining residue” could “fall.”
Dee enlisted the government’s assistance to help businesses at some point reduce the need for travel.
“Air travel is the only category that has any restrictions based on Omicron’s diversity,” he said.
Tim Alderslade, head of Airlines UK, contributed to the larger red list but criticized the new experiments.
“It was not enough time to hit the millions and the factories before we saw it all. We have no medical evidence,” he said.
