Patient underwent 3D curved eye for the first time, Fraunhofer Technology has done he announced. Patient Steve Verze received a high-tech type of replacement for his old prosthetic eye. “It makes me feel more confident,” he said Demand Issues. “If I can’t figure out the difference, I know some people might not notice the difference.”

Fraunhofer worked with the British company Ocupeye Ltd on a new method that is faster and less disruptive. In the past, doctors needed to develop an eye socket, which would make it harder for children to get painkillers.

Now, the team can create a 2.4-second seamless scanner using a specially designed eye scanner that provides accurate measurement of the eye socket. The date is combined with a color-coded eye image and transferred to Fraunhofer’s “Cuttlefish: Eye”, which quickly creates 3D graphics. The app is well suited to create a “real-time visual display,” according to Fraunhofer.

The model is published by a company called Fit AG which specializes in the development of state-of-the-art technology. From there, the prostheses are screened and finalized by the ocularists. “With a single 3D printer, Ocupeye is able to meet the annual requirements of the required 10,000 prostheses on the UK market,” according to reporters.

Verze Prosthetic is a forerunner of an upcoming clinical trial that will highlight the power of 3D printed eyes against traditional, hand-made eyes, according to University College London. Approximately 40 patients will be assigned two tasks to assess prostheses of motility (mobility), cosmesis (focus), fit, comfort, mucous secretion and much more. “This new eye looks great and, based on 3D digital printing technology, it will be much better,” Verze said in a statement.
