One of the best things about neural networks is that they can memorize their data and make copies. This danger exists regardless of whether the content is based on personal information or medical secrets or personal records, explains Colin Raffel, a professor of computer science at the University of North Carolina who promoted the document (not peer-reviewed) in the same study in OpenAI’s GPT-2. But how this implications for AI studies have not been established, Sellars adds.
It would be absurd to put a stamp on the same directory as books and artwork, he says. He said: “We find the textbook to be written even though it doesn’t really look like the books.” We can assume that the number is useful; the work it accomplishes is more important than it is written. But in copyright law, the secret is in how the idea is expressed. “If Copilot puts out what they do exactly what they are taught to do – the same parts, the same results – but spells different codes, it probably doesn’t include personal laws,” he says.
These qualities are another matter. “There is no guarantee that GitHub is pursuing its own interests,” Sellars says. Copilot relies on the work of its users, including those who have tried to prevent their applications from being used for profit, and it can also reduce the need for the same coders when writing multiple applications, he says. “Let’s not forget that there is no realization that happens in the model,” he says.
