Book by Tom Gerencer Intergalactic Refrigerator Refrigerators Are Inexpensive contains 19 scientific fiction. Gerencer selected hundreds of articles he wrote over the past two decades.
“When you go to Walmart, and you go into a section with big Tupperware cans where you can put clothes and things, I just write and write, fill a copy with short stories – or short pieces – and then I put it in a container, and then I fill another copy and put it in a container another copy, and now I have five or six cans in the basement, and there are several cans I have lost some point, ”says Gerencer in Section 473 of Geek design in Galaxy Podcast. “It will definitely be a few words.”
With titles such as “Trailer Trash Savior” and “Apocalyptic Nostrils of the Moon,” you can expect the stories to be light, but Gerencer’s work also has a black line, which often answers questions such as: How Can We Have Fun? Why does the universe exist? Can a mortal save the world?
“When I do some horrible things on paper, it’s just funny, which is great,” says Gerencer. “It allows me to start to step back and be like, ‘Come on, take a break. Like Bugs Bunny and somebody who was there before he said,’ Don’t take it too seriously. You won’t come out alive. ‘”
The humor that Gerencer had was well-received by writers such as Robert Sheckley and Douglas Adams. “People [Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy] The trilogy is one of my favorite fiction in the world, “says Gerencer.” I went and found a radio show and listened to this religiously, over and over again. I have a picture of myself sitting on my desk right now. I tell her about her work. “
Critics sometimes argue Hitchhiker’s design for the Galaxy Like a few funny scenes without a big face, but Gerencer says doing this is a disregard for the look he sees as an opponent of Arthur Dent just about to understand them for the lack of meaning in nature.
“Finally, Arthur realizes that what he has to do, which he can’t do, and make a big decision in the end, I see that he shouldn’t know what’s going on,” says Gerencer. “Eventually they get to the point where they realize, ‘I’m just trying to figure it all out and have fun.’ And then they learn to fly. It’s fun. I’m very relieved. ”

Tom Gerencer pa Mike Resnick:
“She used to call me ‘genius’ all the time. Every time he talks to me, instead of calling me ‘Tom, he just calls me’ smart. ‘ Which was very tempting, but also dangerous … It created an unexpected hope in my head, and it created a great fear in me that I would never be able to achieve what they think I am, because I am not. And I told him, ‘I’m not smart. I write a lot, and 99% of what I write I waste, then I go back to reading, and I bring out gems, and I feel like, ‘Oh, this is good.’ And they’re like, ‘Yes, but 99% of writers out there don’t know the difference between garbage and good writing, and you know. I understand that you write a lot of rubbish, but then you write these good things, and you can go back and say they are good, and, I believe, that’s what they are. they do make you wise. ‘”
Tom Gerencer on his article “The Case of Electric Fettuccine Examples”:
“I was in a Thai restaurant, and I was talking to the owner, who was this big – he’s from Thailand, and he was very funny. I asked him, ‘What’s going on with the watermelon? How do you cook? What do you cook to make it less bitter? And he said, ‘No, no, no, no. If it doesn’t hurt, it’s not good.’ And I said, ‘I don’t understand.’ And he said, ‘Because we eat from yang.’ He smiled broadly, and I thought, ‘That’s fine. He eats from yang.’ He said, ‘You Americans, everything has to be sweet or salty or spicy with you. It’s the same with your life, you can’t deal with any problem. Everything has to be perfect or bad. He said, ‘We don’t see things that way. We eat from yang. You have to get closer to food and life where you also love evil.’ And it really affected me. “
Tom Gerencer on personal names:
“My last name is Gerencer, which is Hungarian for ‘smith.’ I was like, ‘As a change, I’m going to choose Hungarian names.’ But when I start looking at Hungarian names, I feel like, ‘You can’t name any of them.’ When I went to Hungary for a visit, I was constantly criticized for my surname, and I could not understand it. So instead of doing this, which no one can touch, I thought, ‘Well, Poland is close. Everyone knows the Polish name. I just have to. and every time I came across a person, instead of thinking deeply about it, I simply put the Polish man’s name on that person. ‘”
Tom Gerencer on his “Third Story” and “Pizza Hell”:
“I was like, ‘These stories were fun, and I just took them as if I still had them, but I lost them, and that’s very sad.’ It wasn’t released yet, but I love it so much.I finally found this 3.5-inch floppy disk, and I was like, ‘I wonder if he could be there?’ I looked in Amazon and saw that I could buy a floppy disk drive, so I bought it. I had about eight disks, and I went through each of them, and most of them didn’t work. One of them worked, and I didn’t get anything, but I got everything on a regular hard drive. I was like, ‘I can’t believe this is a 30-year-old floppy disk and it works.’ I had searched the file and [the stories] I didn’t go out, then I just started to go through the manual and go through all the folders, and I found both of them. I was shocked. ”
