Robert Sheckley, historian such as “Is This What People Do?” and “Would You Feel Any Good to Do This ?,” was one of the leading artists in the 1950’s. Tom oversees written by Sheckley on a regular basis for nearly a decade.
“He speaks openly to me, no one just likes him, and I answer my questions about work,” says Gerencer in Section 475 of Geek design in Galaxy Podcast. “He was an amazing man, amazingly talented, and he was incredibly kind, gracious.”
Sheckley’s sign of dissatisfaction helped authors like Philip K. Dick, Harlan Ellison, and JG Ballard, as well as his books The Size of Miracles and Reward of Trouble he compared the genres of music such as Hitchhiker’s design for the Galaxy and Runner Man.
“Most of his ideas are very well known,” says Gerencer. “He would just raise his voice, look at the problems and say, ‘If this continues, 50 years will be like this.’ And you look at them and say, ‘Well, we’re close now. It’s getting worse.’ That’s why I think she is so popular. “
Sheckley is often remembered as a writer whose talents have dwindled over the years, but Gerencer thinks the truth is very complex, and that Sheckley has never lost his sense of humor. “I don’t think it was because he couldn’t do such things afterwards, I just think he didn’t want to,” Gerencer says. “They have found this, and they want to write about things that affect a man over the age of 70, which are not things that affect a man in his 20s or 30s, and these things, unfortunately, are not something that scientists will care about.”
Sheckley’s career has also changed somewhat in recent years. Her best stories are found in the 2012 book Creative Store, by Jonathan Lethem and Alex Abramovich, et al audiobook type yes The Size of Miracles was released in 2013, edited by John Hodgman. Gerencer says Sheckley was a prolific writer, and everything he wrote is worth reading.
“I read somewhere that they wrote over 400 articles, and I feel like I’ve read about 150 of them, and I love them,” says Gerencer. “And I’m like, ‘Wow, are there 250 more out there?’ I wish I could find more of them. ”

“In an effort to be a fan of Douglas Adams, I read a few words in conversation; I think it was in Neil Gaiman’s book Do Not Be Afraid, which features other interviews with Douglas Adams in it. But while in there, he asks Douglas Adams about Robert Sheckley – this argument ‘people say you got Robert Sheckley,’ and Douglas Adams is like, ‘I’ve never read his stuff, but when I read it I feel like, “Wow, it’s really similar to my stuff.” ‘And so I feel like,’ Oh, is it really like Douglas Adams? Let’s see. ‘I used to go to the old bookstore all the time, and I just looked at the science fiction team, and I got a short list of Robert Sheckley and I liked it, and I’ve been waiting a lot ever since. ”

“In 1998 I was like, ‘I feel like the man is still here. Because I know his stories were written in the ’50s and 60s, but I want to see if they are still here.’ So I looked up ‘Robert Sheckley’s email address,’ and an email came out – aol.com address – so I sent him an email. … I ‘ll be friends with him for years, and I ask him,’ Do we have any excuses? ‘ And she said, Yea, for so much. And it grew and grew. We would go around and take notes, and it would become a book, and sometimes it would be painful for all of us. I don’t know if I was a good writer, and I think he had a problem with self-doubt, when he thought, ‘I don’t know if I can do the job.’ We just broke up, and sadly, I think it was in 2005, he died. It was very sad. ”

“In other countries — Russia, Italy, everywhere in Europe, China, all over the world, outside the US – he was making a resumption of his work, which I think is starting to happen here, perhaps. I’m beginning to feel as it is, and A lot of power for him – if anyone else deserves it, it’s him. He’s very smart. But then he tells me, ‘I’m going to Venice. It’s a vacation, but I’ll tell my story. He’s asking me questions in Italy, and I’m going to Russia for a book tour.’ he loved it, you know, I thought he was eating. He was just like, ‘This is great. I didn’t expect this to happen, but it was fun.’ This was happening to him, and I was so happy that it was happening. “
Tom Gerencer on writers and alcohol:
“I don’t know where those ideas came from, but it’s a pity, because it’s not true that you feel pain before you write. Don’t worry, life does bring a lot of pain, you don’t have to go looking for it through a bottle. But I think I’m a kid. I remember buying Scotch bottles and thinking, ‘I’m a writer. I have to have a bottle of Scotch in my house. ‘Then thank God I stopped, ran away. And now that I have grown up and know some successful writers, they don’t do that. … They are the ones who are taught, and understand that these stories are fiction, which I think will eventually end. ”
