Iran’s prime minister says nuclear stakes ‘cannot be denied’ | Powerful Nuclear Issues

Ali Bagheri Kani tells Al Jazeera Iran will issue a third proposal once for the first time, insisting that all US nuclear sanctions be lifted immediately.

Iran’s chief negotiator said ideas that his country provided during negotiations with world powers that aim to revive the 2015 nuclear deal “can not be denied”.

Representatives of Iran, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom are meeting this week in Vienna for the seventh round of talks to renew the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The United States, which abolished the treaty in 2018 and reinstated sanctions against Iran, is only participating in another form while Iran refuses to negotiate directly with them.

In an interview with Al Jazeera in the Austrian capital, Ali Bagheri Kani said on Friday Iran would offer a third proposal only after the first two delegates made the previous day had been approved.

“Iran’s offer to the world powers cannot be denied. It is based on the provisions of the 2015 treaty,” he said, adding that all US sanctions on nuclear weapons should be lifted immediately.

On Thursday, the negotiator said the two views were related to “lifting sanctions” and “Iran’s nuclear activities”, both of which are facing the JCPOA.

“Now the other side has to look at these documents and prepare to negotiate with Iran based on these documents,” he told state media.

A report from Vienna, Ali Hashem of Al Jazeera, stated that “the third focus will be on the assertions and assurances that Iran is calling on the world’s superpowers to revive the nuclear deal”.

If possible, the talks will lift US sanctions while reducing Iran’s nuclear program. But the differences between the two countries’ views lead to doubts about the successes, and it is expected that they will intensify the negotiations.
