Recent updates: Epic Games states that Google set up a ‘Fortnite task Force’ to protect fines

Google has created a ban on Android users downloading popular games Fortnite outside the Play Store, Epic Games was announced in court releases Monday.

The move prompted Google to shut down the fine from the game but challenged the notion of Android being a “open” platform, according to the official download from Epic, which makes Fortnite.

Epic has sued Google and Apple and accused them of working together for 30 percent of their purchases within the app. Epic lost on a number of challenges against Apple, but won Ask seeking freedom from manufacturers to provide users with alternative payment options. Both have appealed.

The lawsuit against Google, however, is particularly serious, as Android developers are not obliged to distribute their apps through the Play Store, while Apple’s App Store is the only place where users can download apps.

Epic argued in court that users’ ability to “download” software from other stores, or directly from the Internet, was more imaginary than real.

When Fortnite – the most popular game in the world – launched a direct download option in August 2018, and offered a distribution via Samsung’s Galaxy Store, Google feared that this could spread too far and launch a campaign to figure out how to prevent users from switching to external options. Play Store, according to what did not happen in the courts.
