SYDNEY (Reuters) – New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has banned her marriage as the country imposes new sanctions to curb the spread of COVID-19 Omicron, she told reporters on Sunday.

New Zealand imposed curfews and banned gatherings from midnight on Sunday after a series of nine cases of COVID-19 Omicron marked the spread of the population from the north to the South Islands after the wedding.

One couple returned to Nelson on the South Island by plane after a wedding and other events in Auckland, North Island. The family and the flight attendant were found to be HIV positive.

New Zealand moves to the red zone under the protection of the COVID-19, wearing a more sophisticated mask. Homeschooling facilities such as bars and restaurants and events like weddings will reach 100 people. The limit is reduced to 25 people if the venue does not use the vaccine, Arden said.

“My marriage is not going to happen,” he told reporters, adding that he was “saddened” by anyone’s experience. Ardern did not reveal the date of his wedding, but there were rumors that it was approaching.

Asked by reporters how he felt about the dissolution of his marriage with his longtime friend and fellow fisherman Clarke Gayford, Ardern replied: “This is life.”

He added: “I am no different from, I would say, thousands of New Zealanders who have experienced the trauma of the epidemic, which results in the loss of loved ones sometimes when they are. Very ill. That will far exceed any grief I may have.

The New Zealand border has been closed to visitors since March 2020. The government withdrew plans to reopen slowly from mid-January until the end of February due to the Omicron pandemic that could occur as in neighboring Australia.

People who can travel to New Zealand without a permit are required to register to live in a state-run private residence. The government last week stopped giving new opportunities among the number of people who arrived with Omicron.

About 94% of New Zealanders over the age of 12 are fully vaccinated and approximately 56% of those eligible have received treatment.
