In all speed seeking to ensure that elections in the United States are held safe, Microsoft’s ElectionGuard software has been an exciting development. The process, which was launched in 2019, provides a so-called “final affirmation,” meaning that all votes are secret and secret, but it is still unclear how the votes were cast and whether the winner’s affirmation is correct. On Thursday, Microsoft and Hart InterCivic, one of the three largest voting machines in the US, joined forces he announced an operational agreement to use ElectionGuard on Hart’s Verity votes. The idea is to create Hart’s existing voting tools with amazing add-ons from ElectionGuard. The machines always produce paper backup files, are encrypted in a unique way that allows for the read and retention of all security and confidentiality, and enhances the ability to conduct post-election research. The offer of Hart’s ElectionGuard will also give voters the opportunity to check if their vote has been counted. And the process is self-evident – anyone can create a program that can determine the amount of votes in a particular election.
The issue comes amid concerns and uncertainties among US voters. Hart InterCivic is one of three secret vendors that makes the most of the voting tools used in US elections, along with ES&S and Dominion. Hart is the smallest of the three, but its voting equipment, which includes a window scanner and paper scanner, is used at polling stations in more than a dozen locations, including Texas (headquartered), California, Michigan, North Carolina, and Kentucky. The company has been producing votes and other electoral instruments for over 100 years.
But even though it’s part of Microsoft’s partnership agreement, more information on where ElectionGuard software will be used. “We’ve been working on designing the right airport, we’re talking to regions of all kinds,” says Mathis. “We have also been working with countries, because it is important for us to get the government to agree with one of the pilots.”
Microsoft ElectionGuard is obviously a new offering, but it comes off more than ten years of research.
