On Friday night, many people were terrified of the cold weather and headed for a remote shopping center in Yorkshire, England, to listen to live music and enjoy some refreshments.
Three days later, he left.
The unexpected was due to Storm Arwen, which covered the area in heavy snow and burned power cords with winds of up to 98 mph, leaving tens of thousands of people powerless.
More than 100 tickets had been sold on Friday by the Oasis eagle team, Noasis, at the Tan Hill Inn, but in the end, only 61 people made their way to the mall. When the wind blew outside, the partygoers danced around the bank’s dance hall and turned to the band’s rocking “Wonderwall”.
Then it started to snow. It’s snowing. It’s snowing.
“It was emotional. You opened the door and you could see what it was like, ”said Becky Longthorp, who walked two hours from her home to watch the orchestra. “We were drinking too much, so I was disturbed. I was like, ‘This is terrible.’ ”
That’s when everyone at the Tan Hill Inn – the helpers, staff, even the team – all decided to stay. And then Saturday, they became another. And then another.
“We arrived on Friday and the weather started to get worse, I knew it would be a long week!” Advocate Tom Rigsby told BuzzFeed News.
Like many British restaurants, the Tan Hill Inn has a few guest rooms and beds, but not for many people. Some had gone to the gig in camping cars, but many others were preparing to leave after the show. Longthorp wanted to build a camp. Instead, they all had to sleep in sleeping quarters.
“There was a hurricane. It was crazy. The wind tore the tent to shreds, “said Longthorp.
“That’s when we woke up Saturday morning, and you think, Wait a minute. This is not fun.”

Located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Tan Hill Inn is the highest point in Britain, with an elevation of 1,732 feet[1,732 m]above sea level. Snow often headaches. When the former owner sold the book in 2017, he warned that he had been snow about 50 times in his 12 years there. In 2010, 30 people celebrating New Year’s Eve and he abode there three days. About 200 people were forced to do so sleep at night in 2016 after watching the band Scouting for Girls.
When the sun rose on the Saturday after the first night, the scene around the Tan Hill Inn was like a dry tundra. Cars were covered in snow, which blocked the pub’s doors and windows. Even if you found a way out, local authorities warned you that driving was wrong.
The meeting was held in a hall where the choir sang the night before. Everyone just had to stay. But because power had gone down and cars had been left closed, people who were trapped knew that help was far away.
“However, we were warm and safe so we had to accept the situation!” Rigsby said.

Over time, guests played board games and cards with each other. They played karaoke and performed trivia competitions. The group, which apologized to fans for not being able to make their next show in Essex, also sang a few more songs. Some foods were free, but some foods were sold for half price. Alcohol continued to flow – and bar, after all.
“We were all drinking heavily for three days,” Longthorp said. “I think he has value.”
As news of the players’ plight spread, the owner of Nicola Townsend’s restaurant began talking to reporters. He appeared on British morning TV shows, on Sky News, the BBC, and on the radio. Asked by New York Times. The article made headlines in Italy, Germany, and Sweden. All this time he was still incarcerated.
“It’s like having a large group of friends’ eating dinner,” Townsend told reporters Telegraph newspaper. “They’ve made a real friendship – as a big family is the best way to communicate. One woman really said: ‘I don’t want to leave.'”
The guests appreciated the hardworking staff, who protected them and fed them roasted dinner. Contributors passed a collection tray, raising hundreds of dollars to thank the seven employees for their unexpected three-day change.
By Monday morning, snow-covered roads had lined the surrounding roads and visitors had set out. Longthorp said he was thrilled to arrive home and change his clothes starting Friday. Rigsby said he regained consciousness and returned to his bed.
“We were ready for the shower, but I think we’ll be fine in a night or two now,” he said.
In the pub Facebook page, staff shared a photo of the guests who had gathered together in the auditorium, missing but smiling. “We will always remember this wonderful group of people who came together, and hopefully, under difficult circumstances, they enjoyed what we all thought changed lives,” the bar staff wrote.
There are already rumors that the guests will return to the Tan Hill Inn next year to meet again – albeit with a lot of nightlife.
“I think it’s the whole spirit,” Longthorp said of the global appeal of the issue. “Everyone decided to stick somewhere. But in the pub? How wonderful that is! ”
