MacOS Monterey preview: Both FaceTime and Safari

When I raised the Monterey beta in the first category, it was hard to know if I had changed from Big Sur. But then I set up a new Safari browser, which sent me a header. Speak to the slider – and get used to changing your tabs, address bar and all navigation buttons in the top menu.

Obviously, the goal is to share more space on the screen. This makes browsing better on smaller devices, such as the 13-inch MacBook Air that I have been using to test the software. But it also means a lot of accumulation when you try to sort your tabs. It’s not dangerous when you use a few tabs, but once I set 10 or more, they all went down to their images. It takes a lot of tabs for Safari to use.

You can even put your cursor over the images to view the page, which can be delayed if you want to drag tabs from a single page. You can also link tabs together in groups now, which can be useful if you dig deeper. You can specify image groups and switch between different sets at the same time. It’s a much better solution than opening Safari for most windows and above all, it also connects to the browser on iOS and iPadOS.

After the new version, Safari is still the worst browser on macOS remotely. I usually use Chrome and Safari at the same time – it’s useful for different applications and logins – and Apple’s browser always loads pages faster.

FaceTime and SharePlay

At MacOS Monterey, FaceTime is starting to look like Zoom. And I think that makes sense, given the way the social media chats were last year. Now you can launch FaceTime phone without calling anyone directly. Once you enter, you can invite your friends or create a link for everyone to join, even if they are on Android. Your singing is like waiting for a group of people, instead of just talking about how you can connect with a friend or two.

When I was tested, a friend was able to join my FaceTime weblink page via his iPhone 14 iOS operating system, but could not hear anything. After moving to his Mac, all went well. Since it was running MacOS Catalina, however, it also looks like a FaceTime web page, instead of just opening the app.

If you have AirPods or other headphones that support Spatial Audio, you will also hear voices from people from all walks of life depending on the interface that appears on FaceTime. They need to run a Monterey or iOS / iPadOS 15 beta for the system to work, but it will be very useful once the update is down. In my experiment, I heard two friends coming from the left and right side of my AirPod Pros. It’s like sitting at a small table together. I think it will also be useful for users with visual and hearing impairments, as the separation makes it easier to monitor multiple people.

I think many more people will be FaceTiming their peers to be able to use SharePlay, which gives you the opportunity to watch shows and listen to music with others. Use may be natural, however. Testing the interface with Monterey beta testers and iOS 15, it took us a while to realize that there is no SharePlay button anywhere within FaceTime. Instead, you should start playing the story, which triggers the information that asks you if you want to share it with your friends, or to see for yourself.

When I realized that, it was nice to sit down and watch a few minutes of False Search and my friends. Unfortunately, even though FaceTime is open to Android and Windows users with online videos, these people will not enjoy the content in PlayPlay. And it remains to be seen how the media will handle the task. With Apple TV +, you and your friends need to have subscribers to watch everything. I wouldn’t think Netflix or Disney + would be so careless and allow one person to share something with friends.

• New Focus Strategies are a great way to reduce distractions from information. You can also modify your Focus options to allow messages from users.

• Quick Points is an easy way to receive notes and other informative information from websites and documents. They appear inside the Notes app and are connected to all your Apple and iCloud devices.

• I didn’t have much time to get into Shortcuts, but at first glance they seem to be easy users on MacOS Automations. One of the shortest ways to create it is to create a GIF from video files, but it just always throws errors when I want to start with Siri.

• Live Text is a great tool that gives you the opportunity to choose words embedded with images. It is useful to get more information from receipts, and if I use it it can also help with handwriting. But in many ways, it’s just Apple’s move on Google Lens.

• I appreciated being able to use my MacBook Air as an AirPlay tool. This can be especially helpful with new iMacs, or any systems connected to older speakers.
