Did you know that James Cameron made video slides? That’s right. In his new book, Tech Noir: The Art of James Cameron, director of Terminator, avatar, and Aliens he talks about his time making posters for the old video company Saturn, not even watching movies because they were so bad, and just posting pictures he thought were cool. “It’s a bad movie,” said Cameron. “I strongly recommend that no one watch movies, as I have never seen one. I only watched it for five minutes before turning it off.”
io9 was one of the journalists who spoke to Cameron about Tech Black, which contains these posters, and we asked him about how, if so, how it affected the posters of his own videos, none of which were shown. “I have not pressured the advertising department to do otherwise [between photos and illustration], “Cameron said in a video.” He shows me things. I think Avatar it was one that I think missed, and we brought in Dylan Cole, who was one of our organizers, and Dylan did one of the papers Avatar. Believe it or not, we just did it [them] in our construction department. That is why I believe in the same paper as I believe in the first books of all science fiction books I bought as a child. If it was a good cover, I bought the book. ”
Before she could ask the next question, Cameron woke up and said, “It was funny paper article on Aliens! I had a strong opinion on that.”And that’s when he mentioned the story of how one paper Aliens it could have been this.
“So I went into the office of the 20th Century Fox chief marketing officer, met him on his last day at the office and his office was closed. It was the last time I met him before he left his job, ”Cameron began. “He was sitting at a desk and he had this little green plastic frog and he was squeezing a bulb and making it jump on the desk. And I said, ‘What is a frog?’ And he said, ‘I’m worried about the frog.’ I said, ‘All right, this person he is wounded. ‘”
“Then he said, ‘But I have given you a piece of cloth.’ And he showed this one paper. I think you can find it online, some of it is lost. [Note: We weren’t able to confirm which version Cameron is referring to, but if you know, let us know!] And it was a bad kind of mash-up recording. It looked worse than one Roger Corman paper because, like me, Roger believed in good papers. Not good movies, but good papers. And I looked at this thing and I held it in my hands and said, ‘Oh, let me tell you what I think on this one piece of paper,’ and I just rolled it up a little bit. [into] I throw the ball in the corner. And he was working under pressure frog. And I said, ‘True, I would have to choose between the bad and the bad-a black frame, I can go with a black frame. ‘ And it seems that what happened was I walked out of the office and he called someone and told him ‘He wants everything black!’ They did not understand what I was saying. So if you have ever wondered why there was nothing on one piece of paper Aliens, that’s why.”
