Israeli territories become ‘war crimes’: UN Specialist | Conflicts between Israel and Palestine Issues
An independent UN human rights expert has called for Israeli territories to be seen as war crimes, urging other nations to call for action on what they see as illegal activities.
His offering a recent report to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Michael Lynk, the United Nations special rapporteur on the issue of territorial integrity in Palestine, described the site as “a violation of the Constitution.”
“In my report, I conclude that Israeli settlements are a war crime,” a UN expert said.
He also said that these laws violate the law on the use of force to seize civilians from land grabbing, thus fulfilling the meaning of war crimes in line with Roman law establishing the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“I can assure you that this is forcing all other countries … to say to Israel that their illegal occupation, contrary to international law and international ideology, can no longer be worthless,” Lynk told the Geneva court.
Responding to a report by Lynk, a former member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Hanan Ashrawi wrote on Twitter: “Calling things by their name!”

Many countries feel that this is a violation of international law. Israel opposes this and speaks of the connection between the Bible and history in the country, as well as the need for security.
Israeli action at the UN in Geneva, in a statement sent by Reuters, denied Lynk’s report as “the most recent and most biased Israeli report”.
The conference criticized Lynk for not ignoring the violations of the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, the Palestinian Authority that controls the Gaza Strip.
‘West Bank extensions’
Lynk said Israel’s destruction of Bedouin tents in a village in the West Bank on Wednesday left people without food or water in the heat of the Jordan Valley, calling them “illegal and heartless”.
“The continued occupation of the Palestinian territories along with the security of the territories includes the occupation of Israel in the West Bank,” he said.
There are about 300 settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, with a population of over 680,000 in Israel, Lynk said.
The United States, Israel’s closest ally in charge of the council, has not spoken to a council accusing him of racism in Israel.
Lotte Knudsen, European Union ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, said the site was illegal under international law.

Global action, not just words, is needed to address the problem, he said.
“As long as the foreign powers criticize Israel for not wanting results and hold them accountable, I think it is magical to believe that the 54-year-old occupation will end and the Palestinians will finally realize their right to self-determination.”
The Palestinian people want to establish an independent state in the West Bank and Gaza and East Jerusalem as their capital, but the issue of establishing Jewish-occupied territories by Israel during the 1967 war has been a stumbling block to peace. The last peace talks fell in 2014.
