Israeli forces kill Palestinian youths in protests in West Bank | Conflicts between Israel and Palestine Issues

Mohammed Hamayel, 15, was killed during a weekly protest in a West Bank suburb of Beita against an illegal Jewish center.

Palestinian teenager killed in Israeli fire in clashes between Israeli protesters and soldiers in West Bank, Palestinian officials have said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported on Friday that “Mohammad Said Hamayel, 15, has died in a” fight with Israeli forces “near Beita, south of Nablus, where many Palestinians have protested against the growing Jewish encroachment on their property.

Palestinian health ministry says six others have been injured in the shooting.

A Palestinian journalist, Wafa, says Israeli soldiers fired shots, tear gas and rubber bands covering the protesters. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

Hamayel is the eighth Palestinian child to be killed by Israeli forces this year and the third in Beita, where protests have taken place in recent months as Israeli forces built an army on Mount Sabih.

The lives of at least 17 Palestinian families – more than 100 people – are threatened because they depend on harvesting their olives on land they have owned for generations.

At a protest in the village of Kufr Qaddoum, an eight-year-old boy burst into tears as Israeli soldiers marched on Loay Samir’s family home. A 10-year-old boy injured his leg with a rubber bullet.

Murad Shteiwi, a spokesman for Kufr Qaddoum, said the Israeli army had seized the town with heavy artillery, adding that they had entered the homes of Palestinian people, climbed on their roofs and used them as a safe haven for their captors.

Villages in the West Bank often stage protests on Friday against the evictions, destruction of homes and Israeli settlements that appear to be illegal by international law. The Israeli military has often responded to the protests with incredible violence.

Another 475,000 Israeli residents live in the West Bank, where more than 2.8 million Palestinians live.

On Thursday, Israeli forces shot and killed three Palestinian civilians, including two security guards, in a bomb blast near the town of Jenin during what appeared to be an Israeli raid overnight.
