The camera should be installed on the roof of each stadium with information that will be provided to the video operator who can notify the player.
FIFA, the world governing body of football, is using the Arab Cup in Qatar to test its offside with the use of special cameras and offshore television.
Cameras were installed on the roof of each stadium, and information would be sent to a videographer who could inform the judge.
“The results released in the video will be sent to the operating rooms and a limited number of offside lines and available locations have been provided,” said Johannes Holzmueller, FIFA’s chief football and technical director.
“The replay user then has the opportunity to show immediately to the VAR. At the FIFA Arab Cup, the VAR assistant at the independent venue can confirm and confirm the statement.”
The final decision, however, will be made to the officers in the VAR room and the judge.
If the results are positive, the plan could be applied to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
FIFA Referees Committee Chair Pierluigi Collina he explained semi-automated offside technology as “the most important test to date”.
“Technology is very important and helpful in pre-game planning and game-making decisions,” he said.
“In the case of a game, the decision is made after an analysis not only on the players’ performance and participation in the game. Technology – today or tomorrow – can draw a line but attempts to disrupt a game or an opponent remain in the hands of the judge.”
The Arab Cup, which will be played in four stadiums in Qatar, kicks off on Tuesday.
