It was inevitable, looking back, that the Beatles carried and the radio video produced, two of the most digested people, able to change. “Truly, Paul was real. . . ”And“ Have you been looking. . . ”Discuss murder in the same way. It just needed an emergency. Peter Jackson agreed with Come back. Last week it was the eighth or ninth week in a row that someone tried to text me to discuss what McCartney was, no doubt trying to inspire some of his peers to his fans, who are sometimes called the “little band”.
The wonder of modern Beatlemania is how it is at their complete breakdown. If some married couples in their 20s are about 30 years apart, it is absurd. Their glory, like that of their country, was behind them. Had they continued to experiment but to no avail for their final albums, the big punk sound would have been directed at them, not on prog or rock. The group would now have a naff or confusing history. The Beatles’ work benefited from the same thing Come back swearing: circumcision.
So why mania? Why do 40-year-old friends, knowing that life is limited, watch 460 minutes of making the band’s most iconic record? If the answer were yes to men’s feelings, the world would rest. But I’m afraid of major disruptions at work.
2022 is a century of Western evolution and art. In 1922, Ulysses and The Waste Land he took the written word in a circular, internal way. That extraordinary love also led Wassily Kandinsky to join Bauhaus and Louis Armstrong to the delight of a solo artist at a jazz festival in Chicago. It is possible to be vague or intimidating about “these days” (atonal music was a wrong turn, for example) and still rejoice that people were free and expectant, even after, or because of, the first world war.
It’s also hard not to make a bad comparison with 2022. Hollywood’s trend toward franchise sequels and superhero tomfoolery is a perfect example of modern culture. But we have been destroyed for some. Systematically, Adele or Ed Sheeran single is no different from almost no 1 in 1972. No one can tell Sally Rooney or Jonathan Franzen to play quickly and freely with the original version of the book.
There is something to be said for stasis. The neophilia epidemic in the 1920’s sparked wild celebrations. Supporting a new and technical doctrine called fascism was one of them. Ezra Pound, a critic of the town of Modernism, who hailed 1922 as the “First Year”, was, politically, a fanatic.
However, the future power shortage cannot be taken lightly. For one thing, it enters into the already existing context of Western fatigue, as narrated by its enemies. (Who, of course, saw Modernism and other old-fashioned strangeness as “decadence”. In the US, the number of new businesses has dropped over the past 40 years.
It is in this context that Beatlemania begins to make sense. Apparently, people are constantly complaining about the Beatles because there is nothing new, unlike that there is nothing new because people are always complaining about the Beatles. But I have a little doubt about all of this. And there is no health. When the band’s stature dropped somewhat, in the 1980’s, new trends were emerging in music and food. Many of the films that performed the most were the viewers themselves. The group was respected, but it was not used as an escape from modern torpor.
A lot of heroes have happened since then. (1995’s Anthology Documentary changed a lot.) And it leaves the remaining members in a difficult situation. They were the strongest people in the society since the war. They are, given the lives they have been living, incredibly frustrated and well-transformed people. But it is possible that the raw material of their heritage is now more influential than encouraging new creativity. There is no less honor for intellectuals than to look back at them.
