The bill is ‘being treated’ and ‘his life is in danger’, Ennahdha officials said.
Tunisian politician Noureddine Bill rushed to the hospital with “serious problems” following his arrest by plainclothes police in Tunis on Friday, freedom fighters and lawmakers said so.
Bill is “in critical condition” and “in a major hospital” in the northern town of Bizerte, lawyer and politician Samir Dilou told AFP on Sunday.
“Kais Said [Tunisia’s president] has full control over Biri’s life, “Saied’s anti-Citizens group known as Citizens Against the Coup tweeted, adding that Biri was” facing death “and” rushed to the hospital in critical condition “.
On Saturday, Tunisia’s independent anti-terrorism watchdog (INPT) said authorities had not said anything about Biri or Fathi Baldi, a former interior minister who questioned him on Friday.
The interior ministry says two people have been detained without detention. It also called the move “a defense mechanism established by the need to protect national security”.
President Said was is accused of sedition in July last year when he overthrew the Ennahdha-backed government and suspended parliament.
He later took action rule by law, and in early December he vowed to continue the political process.
Ennahdha chief Rached Ghannouchi, who is also the speaker of the suspended parliament, issued a letter to the President of Tunisia requesting more information on Biri’s whereabouts, as well as his release.
We emphasize that it is your responsibility to disclose his or her status, Ghannouchi wrote in a letter published on Ennahdha Sunday.
He appealed to Saied “to help the medical and human rights movement to visit him … and we urge you to be released immediately”.
Mondher Lounissi, a doctor and member of Ennahdha’s head office, said in his statement Biri suffers from chronic diseases, including diabetes and serious illness.
“She has been drugged” and “her life is in danger,” Lounissi told a news conference, adding that Biri usually takes 16 pills a day.
Lounissi urged Red Crescent and international organizations to intervene instead of Biri, calling the incident “inhumane”.

One of Ennahdha’s senior members, Said Ferjani, told AFP that seeing “a former prime minister doing this … is dangerous in Tunisia and the region”.
MP Saida Ounissi has previously stated that Biri has been kept in a “secret place” since his arrest, and no charges have been filed against him.
Since Saied’s intervention, several political and commercial officials have been arrested or charged, many of them with corruption or defamation.
Human rights groups have criticized some of their arrests and the use of military courts in criminal proceedings.
Saied has pledged to uphold the freedoms and freedoms that were achieved through the 2011 Tunisian revolution, which brought about democracy and sparked Arab Spring riots throughout the region.
