U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has said US-Mexico relations have begun a “new season”, with Harris meeting with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in Mexico City on Tuesday to discuss strangers from Central America, among other things.

Harris and Lopez Obrador were present to sign a memorandum of understanding on the work that development agencies are planning to do in the Northern Triangle states of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

At a joint press conference, Harris tried to prevent potential migrants from traveling to the US, telling them “don’t come”- the implicit word that tourists said it contradicted the commitment of the administration to act more effectively than to oust Trump.

New York attorney Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez condemned what Harris called “frustrating” and argued that the search for security was a legal way to enter the US.

The White House sought to explain what Harris had done Tuesday.

“What the vice-president was saying is that there is a lot of work to be done, that we don’t have these systems in place,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told a news conference.

“The journey is dangerous … and we need more time to make sure that the security plan is in place.”
