Facebook Messenger adds QR codes to Facebook Pay

Facebook is supporting send money in the Messenger. The app now supports QR-like QRs with selected links that pay per person and Facebook Pay. With these updates, users can access their QR code and URL on Messenger to request payment. Facebook recognizes that these things also apply even if you are not already a Facebook friend, which should make it easy to send or request a refund to strangers.

This may seem like a very serious problem, but it can be especially helpful to those who buy and sell on the Facebook Marketplace, where events often start on Messenger. Now, instead of turning to Venmo or another third-party app to complete the payment, buyers and sellers can be more encouraged to use Facebook Pay instead. The article is currently available in the US, but the company says some changes will “come soon.”

Messenger also unveiled a number of new features, including a new “quick response” bar for replying to photos and videos, and new chat themes to customize newsletters.
