EU fines BMW and VW $ 1 billion for curbing air pollution technology

European car manufacturers are struggling with another problem with diesel emissions, but this is not the case Diesel. Reuters reports European Commission paid BMW and Volkswagen worth € 875 million (over $ 1 billion) for using a technology to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. The two, along with whistleblower Daimler, are said to have agreed to avoid competing in the AdBlue urea smuggling expertise in negotiations that took place between 2009 and 2014.
BMW, Daimler and VW agreed on the prices of AdBlue tanks, units, and the number of applications, and shared technology, the Commission said. This, he said, put an end to the competition and prevented the trio from realizing the “potential” of their air-conditioning technology. He could have cleaned up diesel emissions beyond EU requirements, but apparently he did not make the choice.
All three parties agreed to settle the case. Daimler would have been fined $ 727 million ($ 861.5 million) if he did not disclose the nature of the crime. VW also received opportunities in its partnership.
Margrethe Vestager’s Executive VP realized that this was a new issue – it was the first time the judge had realized that integration in development was leading to an unofficial group. To that end, European authorities have provided advice on a non-consensual agreement against anti-corruption laws, such as the establishment of an AdBlue affiliate program.
The idea that pioneering is a challenge, however. VW said in words that he is considering filing a complaint because he is said to have written a dangerous report in a foreign land. The maker of the machine also said that the negotiations “never happened” and that customers did not suffer as a result. It is not true that VW will win the bid, but the battle is over.
