The New York City mayoral poll, which was published on Wednesday, showed Kathryn Garcia closer to the frontrunner Eric Adams than the number on Tuesday which turned the race into a nightmare.
The latest results gave Adams, a retired captain and president of Brooklyn, 51.1% of the vote, and Garcia, a former head of the sanitation department, at 48.9%, unchanged from the initial count.
However, the margin between democracy activists dropped from 15,908 votes to 14,755, with nearly 124,000 votes not cast.
A third candidate, Maya Wiley, said the election was “open” and demanded that all votes be counted.
The city’s electoral commission released the article Wednesday night and apologized for a shocking failure one day earlier that left nearly 135,000 people taking the wrong ballot. The program of wrong it sparked outrage from those who wanted to join the alliance and insulted New Yorkers.
The commission, which was not uncommon in controversies and insults, has condemned the “human error” of failure.
The election is the first time the city has used a special vote, giving each voter the opportunity to vote for five people, depending on their wishes, in their election. Losses are eliminated from the next round, their votes are changed until only the last two are left.
“The voting irregularities that took place yesterday were unacceptable and we apologize to the voters and to the fraudulent activities,” said two board members, President Frederic Umane and secretary Miguelina Camilo. The commission stressed that new review sections had been introduced and were able to say “with certainty” that the most recent estimates were correct.
Garcia, a reckless activist whose campaign was delayed, said: “While we are still determined to win, we are not doing anything lightly and we urge everyone to patiently wait for the more than 124,000 people to be counted and voted for.”
It was an Adams campaign that realized Tuesday night that more than 100,000 votes appear to have been added to the count from election night last week.
His campaign was announced on Wednesday as the day before the election, adding: “There are a lot of unconventional votes that we can believe we love Eric – and we are confident we will be the last New York people to vote.”
Adams seemed to have order lead on election night, when 31.8% of voters elect him as the first candidate. He was followed by Wiley, the former mayor’s lawyer Bill de Blasio and the progress average, with 22.2%. Garcia was third at 19.3%.
But Garcia won when votes went through in the way he chose. He captured Wiley with only 347 votes after businessman Andrew Yang was removed from the race and his votes were redistributed. Wiley’s dismissal also provided Garcia with further encouragement.
Elections are considered the most important for generations of New York City in a bid to recover from a pandemic that has killed more than 33,000 people, has disrupted small businesses and ransacked the city.
It is also being watched over the largest city in the United States as part of the struggle between the Democratic Party and the developing wings.
Every Democratic voter who wins a primary must be a winner in the November election given the largest number of voters in the city.
