Shares in the EDF dropped by 8 percent after a French humanitarian company claimed to have found faults in one of its nuclear power plants, prompting it to shut down four state-of-the-art reactors while investigating the problem.
The closure of these reactors will result in a 1-hour loss of TerraWatt at the end of 2021, the company said Wednesday evening, adding that it had completely adjusted its pre-existing estimates of interest rates, taxes, lower prices and refunds of several € euros. 17.5bn to € 18bn, against a previous target of more than € 17.7bn.
This crisis exacerbates the problems that EDF has experienced in its field of nuclear power, including rising costs and delays.
Problems were found at the Civaux power plant, in the Vienne department of France, in a survey that occurs once every 10 years. French nuclear security officials, the Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire, were notified of the incident and four nuclear weapons were shut down, including two at Civaux and two at the Chooz nuclear plant, on the Belgian border, who used the same technology.
The EDF did not say how long the seeds would remain closed.
