FDA adds warning of heart attack in Moderna, Pfizer vaccine | Coronavirus News Plague

The warning change follows a major review of discussions and discussions with the CDC Steering Committee.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has added a warning about the risk of heart attack on specific Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines.

Friday’s warning said serious reports of vaccine-related complications – especially after a second dose – indicate an increase in myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle, and pericarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle.

The following proposal follows a major review of its discussions and discussions with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC’s) Advisory Committee on the Practice Practices meeting Wednesday, the FDA said.

By the end of the second week of June, more than 1,200 cases of myocarditis or pericarditis had been reported to the US Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.

The cases are said to appear to be the highest in men and one week after the second dose.

Pfizer and Moderna have not commented yet.
