Can reducing meat consumption save the earth? | | Food

From: Above

The world food system manages one third of the world’s greenhouse gases.

Changing diet to avoid eating meat and dairy products could be a key factor in reducing man’s impact on the earth’s ecosystem, according to some scientists.

A recent report by Meat Atlas, compiled by several environmental groups, found that 20 livestock companies were more likely to cause more air pollution than Germany, the UK or France.

Methane-produced beef is just part of the problem, says filmmaker Kip Andersen, filmmaker of 2014 Cowspiracy.

“The biggest issue is land use,” says Andersen, “that 90 percent of the corn and soybeans in the Amazon are fed to livestock. As a result, all you have to do is remove all these strange sinks, which are the trees, and just destroy them. ”

This week Above, Marc Lamont Hill talks to filmmaker Kip Andersen about how the food industry affects the environment.
